Reenlistment
I reenlisted today, pushing my EAS out to 12 October 2013. That should give me plenty of time to get the hell off the drill field and over to Afghanistan before Obama pulls everyone out of there too.
I used to believe anyone could become a Marine. But the fact of the matter is only a fraction of people throughout history have had what it takes to wear the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor. Being a drill instructor this past year has made me realize Marines are a special breed of Americans, redefining words like duty and dedication. Making them mean something again.
Becoming a Marine is accomplishment enough, but staying Marine is the real challenge. Staying Marine is true sacrifice, selflessness, devotion. Because one day you’ll wake up and realize it’s not about you. It’s about them. The next generation of Marines that you are raising to protect our way of life, our freedoms, our legacy of honor, courage, and commitment.
Stay green, stay hard, and Semper fi Marines!
Oorah brother! Yut yuuut!

Congrats, man.
Funny story: so I showed the wife your previous entry and relayed a few (slightly abridged) tales of our misspent youth, when my daughter asked “Who are you talking about?”
I replied: “Daddy’s friend Jayme, you met him when you were little and then when we were in San Diego.”
She said: “Was he the man with no hair?”
It turns out that you’re a celebrity in my house, thought I’d let you know.
..but staying Marine doesn’t require humility.
ya know what LIFER stands for?
Seriously, congrats. Glad to see you sticking around.

Congratulations on staying a Marine. Im sure you’ll be kicking alotta ass in the near furture if not already.
Thanks for the kind words, you are always welcome in the old homestead. As long as the saying “I will horse—— you to parade rest” is still around I know I have a legacy.
OOHRAH GUNNY. Im in afghanistan right now doing the damn thing. Hows everything been on the drill field?
Reading this just gave me more motivation to my purpose of reenlisting. Its definately not something that just anyone can comprehend or understand the reasons for others having so much of their heart belong to the Marine Corps.
And speaking of staying Marine, have you spoken to your local recruiter yet? Stop being a commie and come back in. There’s still plenty of killin’ left for you!
Where are you at now a days? I’ve got another young killer on The Path. He’s been told your story. Who woulda thought you would be legend?
You obviously need more friends with no hair. Any real dad your age would be balding by now, and my presence wouldn’t have shocked the young ones so much.
In hindsight, our youth was destined to be misspent. We did, after all, incorporate the Black Panthers into the Boy Scouts. Who else can say that?
At an age of 63 all I’m good for would be a rear guard holding untill relieved. That is if you don’t mind a ‘Mr. Magoo’type covering your backside…I’m sure still willing. Semper Fi
